How Does Crackle Polish Work?

China Glaze calls it crackle, OPI shatter and Herome graffiti. They all call it different, but they all do the same thing; crack when you apply it on top of another nail polish. Crackle polish was the trend of 2011. Some brands still come with new crackle polishes. YSL just came with their own crackles. I actually have had enough of the whole crackle trend, but I still wonder; how does a crackle polish work? And can you make your own crackle polish? I did some research the past few weeks and this is what I came with.

Crackle Combinations

So I was kinda lazy this one afternoon. I decided to make some swatches of polishes with a crackle polish on top. Crazy, how many different combinations you can make. Some are beautiful, some are horrible! Let's look at some looks I made:

NOTD: Holo on Crack

Today just a quick nail of the day. (Nail of the days are always quick.)

A classmate of mine had a manicure of a plain silver polish with a black crackle on top. It looked nice to me, but not as nice as I could be. So I came up to do this NOTD. I used Holographic by Gosh as the base color and on top the black crackle polish from BeYu. I really like the effect of the holo through the crackles of the nailpolish. This is definitely a manicure I'm going to wear more often!

China Glaze Crackle Polishes

A couple weeks ago I wrote an article about a new trend; crackle nail polishes. China Glaze just came out with their own crackle collection and right when I heard about those polishes I ordered a few colors. After a few weeks I finally rechieved the polishes.

Trend 2011: Crackle Nail Polish

Let's talk about a trend that is going 'round since mid 2010: Crackle nail polish.

For the ones who missed it: Crackle polish is a nail polish, almost a topcoat, that you put on top of a color nail polish that dries quick in little crackles.

Essence Crackle Polish

Most brands already have crackle nail polishes. Now Essence, the low-budget brand, is soon coming out with crackle nail polishes.

They are going to sell two crackle base colors and two crakle polishes.
I think the special base colors are a bit too much because you can also use any polish you like.

The polishes will be availeable for a few countries. I don't know all the countries but I heard Spain and Germany. The polishes will be available in March, they are Limited Edition.
