Trend Winter 2010/2011: Moon Manicure

A moon manicure is something what women wore back in the 1930s and 1940s. It was a big hit. Back then they didn't color their nails like we do now, they always had a moon manicure. And now the moon manicure is back! We've already seen this manicure on the runway last September and we're going to see this look much more in 2011.

Picture on the right is an ad from the 1940s about a new nailpolish. The manicure on the nails is a moon manicure.

As you look at your thumb or other nails, you see a white "half moon" under your nails. The idea of a moon manicure is to let the moon stand out. You can paint the moon white the make them stand out more or you just don't paint the moon at all. You can also give the moons a different color than just white. Then to make the look complete you are going to paint the rest of your nail in one color.

Tip: To make your nails more "vintage", paint the tips of your nails white so only the middle part of your nail is colored.
